Angelo Mazza and Maja Szumarska to Speak at PLIs Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement 2024
Overview
Intellectual Property Partners Angelo Mazza and Maja Szumarska will speak at the Practising Law Institute’s Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement 2024 on January 17, 2024. The program provides developments on recent copyright and trademark cases and anticounterfeiting trends.
Maja will deliver opening remarks for this event and will present on two panels. She will speak on the “Anti-Counterfeiting Update” panel. This session will cover key decisions involving trademark counterfeiting from the past year and provide strategies to protect against the online sale of counterfeit products. Maja will also speak on the “Ethical Issues in IP Rights Enforcement” panel. This session provides guidelines for avoiding ethical issues in investigations, as well as ethical issues arising in connection with attorneys’ use of AI, social media, and other technology tools.
Angelo will present on the “Current Government IP Enforcement Programs” panel. This bifurcated panel first contains a highly focused dive into the ongoing DOJ criminal enforcement efforts and evolving use of technologies in counterfeiting. The panel also covers FTC efforts to protect consumers from various business scams that impact them negatively and impugn the reputational integrity of brands.
