Gibney’s recent immigration article was listed on JD Supra’s Popular Reads List. The list ranks the most widely read articles on JD Supra in June 2021. The article is titled “USCIS Issues Policies to Improve Immigration Services: What Employers and Foreign Nationals Need to Know”.

The article covers the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announcement of three new policy updates to the USCIS Policy Manual aimed at improving access to immigration benefits.

Angelo Mazza Quoted in Vox Media on Covid-19 Counterfeiters

IP Partner Angelo Mazza was quoted in the Vox Media article, “Coronavirus scammers are flooding social media with fake cures and tests.” The article explores the demand for products fueled by the Covid-19 pandemic such at-home testing kits and the new risk caused by online opportunists selling counterfeit products on social media platforms, e-commerce marketplaces and the dark web.

The article highlights Angelo’s recent brief on Covid-19 counterfeits. In the article, Angelo advises on best practices for recognizing counterfeits, noting that “weird spellings and formatting of words are a strong hint that a seller isn’t authorized. The apparent typos might actually be attempts to evade screening algorithms set up by the…platform.”

Robert Tracy and Maja Szumarska Discuss Dress Code Discrimination in New York Law Journal

Robert Tracy and Maja Szumarska co-authored the article “Are dress codes and grooming policies a source of potential liability for employers?” for the New York Law Journal’s Fashion Law issue published on August 26, 2019. Recently, state and local governments have passed new laws and increased enforcement of existing laws to protect employees from discrimination based on race or gender identity or expression in the workplace. In the article, they review the new guidance and discuss best practices for employers to update their dress and grooming policies and practices.

Bob notes the importance of fashion companies reviewing their practices and policies on personal grooming standards and dress codes in light of the rent enforcement guidance from New York City applying the city’s law against racial discrimination to workplace restrictions on some hair styles and textures as well as prior enforcement guidance from New York City applying gender discrimination law to dress codes that may adhere to gender specific stereotyping.

Houman Afshar Quoted in Bloomberg BNA on Trump Immigration Order

Immigration Partner Houman Afshar was quoted in the Bloomberg BNA article “How Hard Will Trump’s Immigration Order Hit Businesses?” on January 31, 2017. The article addresses how U.S. companies are responding to President Donald Trump’s Jan. 27 immigration executive order which included a ban on entry for nationals of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.  Houman noted that the “situation is very volatile, very fluid, and it seems to be changing every couple of hours” and that it’s created a challenge for corporate America. The article addresses how the travel ban is impacting U.S. business and the uncertainty at the moment with how it is being implemented.
