Ellen L. Poreda

Ellen oversees our Global Immigration Group that provides business immigration services to support our clients’ immigration needs outside the United States.

Working through Gibney’s well-established network of law firms and immigration services providers, Ellen helps coordinate the implementation of employment-based immigration programs for institutional clients throughout the world. . She develops and manages comprehensive immigration programs, creating tailored global immigration strategies that can easily adapt to a changing workforce.

In the area of U.S. immigration law, Ellen assists in obtaining immigrant and nonimmigrant visas based upon employment or familial relationships for corporate and individual clients. She advises on nationality issues including the retention of U.S. permanent resident status and the acquisition of U.S. citizenship.

Earlly in her career, Ellen worked at our associated firm Magrath Sheldrick LLP in London, where she was responsible for U.K. work permit and residency matters.

Prior to joining the firm, Ellen was a legal consultant in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and a manager for a Siemens AG joint venture in Beijing, China.

Experience

  • Coordinates global immigration programs with service providers in the Americas, EMEA and APAC, covering temporary work and residence permits, family permits, and permanent residence.
  • Represents companies and individuals on immigration matters before the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Citizenship and Immigration Services, Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Department of Labor and Department of State
  • Acted as external U.S. immigration counsel for major global financial institution, overseeing all aspects of their employment based nonimmigrant and immigrant visa program and providing worksite compliance advice
